KILIMANJARO TREK

Mount Kilimanjaro is Africa’s highest mountain and the tallest free-standing peak in the world, rising to 5,895 meters (19,341 feet) above sea level.

Mount Kilimanjaro is located in northeastern Tanzania, near the Kenyan border, within Kilimanjaro National Park, approximately 300 km south of the equator. It is a dormant stratovolcano composed of three volcanic cones: Kibo (the highest, 5,895 m), Mawenzi (5,149 m), and Shira (4,005 m) with Kibo’s summit, Uhuru Peak, being the ultimate goal for climbers. Kibo is dormant and could erupt again, while Mawenzi and Shira are extinc. The mountain formed through volcanic activity over the last 3 million years along the East African Rift System

Mount Kilimanjaro is a trekking peak, meaning no technical climbing skills are required, but altitude sickness is a major risk. There are seven main routes to the summit: Marangu, Machame, Lemosho, Shira, Rongai, Umbwe, and Northern Circuit, each varying in difficulty, scenery, and duration. Longer routes like Lemosho and Northern Circuit offer better acclimatization and higher summit success rates (up to 95–98%). Climbers typically ascend in 5–9 days, following a “pole pole” (slowly) approach to reduce altitude sickness risk.

The best time to climb is during the dry seasons, January–March and June–October, for optimal weather and summit visibility.
Mount Kilimanjaro remains a world-renowned destination for adventure, ecological research, and cultural exploration, offering a unique experience from tropical forests to glacial peaks in a single ascent. Temperatures range from 30°C at the base to −20°C at the summit, with two rainy seasons (March–May and October–November) and dry seasons (January–March and June–October) ideal for climbing.
